Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s recent film Mr & Mrs Mahi was released on May 31, when the theatres were also celebrating cinema day. According to reports, the opening day saw an occupancy on the higher side of 56.15% for Hindi language screenings. The film directed by Sharan Sharma has saw some positive reviews and some mixed as well from fans and critics in the Industry.
According to reports, the film has collected over Rs 7 crore net on its opening day with Jaipur bagging highest occupancy across India with 86 %. While similar could be said about states down south like Chennai and Bengaluru with 68 % and 63.25 %.
Film trade analyst Sumit Kadel in a social media post on X (former Twitter) has expected the film to earn something similar at the opening day. His tweet read,, “#MrAndMrsMahi takes a FANTASTIC start at the box office. Day 1 Estimates- ₹ 6.50 -7.50 cr nett. ₹ 99 Ticket Price proved to be a GAME CHANGER.”

Mashable India’s review for the film said, “the makers tried to oscillate the focus between RajKummar and Janhvi’s characters like two batsmen taking turns in front of the wicket. But it did not land as such. The attention towards RajKummar’s Mahi felt too overbearing to give a chance to Janhvi’s Mahi to explore.”
The film is not a biopic of Mahendra Singh Dhoni or a cricket allegory of the ex-skipper’s marital life. It in fact follows a couple who are passionate about cricket and explores the story of how the husband helps the wife through his experience to fulfil their dream. Janhvi in the film is seen as the cricketer.
