Jersey landlords must get a license or stop renting out properties

By admin Aug3,2024

Landlords in Jersey cannot rent out their property until they apply for a mandatory license, under new rules that came into force this week.

Some 15,000 license applications are currently being issued or in the process of being issued.

In order to keep renting out their properties landlords must apply for a license, while inspections may need to be undertake before the license is granted.

Landlords need to have a license for each of the homes they’re renting out, as stipulated in the Rented Dwelling Licensing Scheme.

There was a three-month transition period, with sessions being held at parish halls to help landlords with online applications, closing on 31 July.

The Jersey Landlords Association has previously accused the rollout of the licensing scheme of being rushed.

A license costs £60 and is valid for two years.
