Dabangg Director Says Salman, Arbaaz Were Against Malaika Doing Munni Badnam Hui: ‘Want Their Women Covered’

By admin Sep9,2025

For the past few days, Dabangg director Abhinav Kashyap, brother of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, has been making the headlines for his shocking allegations against Salman Khan and his family. He has made the revelations ahead of the film completing 15 years of release. After claiming that the actor and his family are responsible for making or breaking someone’s career in the Hindi film industry, he has now revealed that Salman and Arbaaz Khan never wanted Malaika Arora to perform on her iconic song Munni Badnam Hui, from the 2010 movie.

In an interview with the Indian Express’ Screen, Kashyap shared that the Khan brothers were against her starring in the song; however, she later convinced them. He shared that Arbaaz was uncomfortable with the idea that his then-wife would be called an “item girl.” Calling the brothers “very conservative Muslims,” the director said that Malaika had her fair share of differences with Salman over her outfits.

Quoted by the Hindustan Times, the 51-year-old filmmaker added, “Arbaaz and Salman, no matter whatever they say, are actually. Malaika also had her own differences with Salman over her outfits. They want their women covered up. So, they didn’t want her to do the item song.”

Heaping praises on the 51-year-old actress for being strong-headed and an independent woman, Abhinav said, “When she was offered this, she said yes. It took some persuasion for Arbaaz to agree. She told him that it’s nothing vulgar, just dancing only, and it’s all family around in the song, what are you scared of? And of course, that song went on to break so many records.”

According to the director, the 59-year-old actor wasn’t initially a part of the song; however, he insisted on being in it after realising its potential. The team had to rework the entire sequence to feature Khan alongside Sonu Sood and Malaika.

Released in 2010, Dabangg was produced by Malaika Arora and Arbaaz Khan under Arbaaz Khan Productions in collaboration with Dhilin Mehta’s Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision. Starring Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Arbaaz Khan, Sonu Sood, Om Puri, Dimple Kapadia, Vinod Khanna, Anupam Kher, Mahesh Manjrekar, and Mahie Gill, the movie was a huge box office success. It has reportedly made a lifetime collection of Rs 215 crore, having been made on a budget of Rs 41 crore.
