India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken social media platforms by storm by praising Laxman Utekar directorial Chhaava during a recent event. The applause has left fans feeling proud of Bollywood actors Vicky Kaushal, Akshaye Khanna, and Rashmika Mandanna’s success. On Friday, February 21, PM Modi inaugurated the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in New Delhi and showered the film based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj with admiration.

Addressing the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, the 74-year-old commented on the box-office success of Chhaava. In a video shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), he explains how Maharashtra and Mumbai have made sure that Marathi films as well as Hindi films reach a new height. He goes on to say, “Inn dino toh Chhaava ki dhoom machi hui hai.” As the panel and the event attendees holler and clap. Once the crowd’s noise dies down, he adds, “The introduction of Sambhaji Maharaj’s valour in this form has been made by Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel.”

In a collaborative post on Instagram, Moddock Films’ shared the clip on their official social media handle with a heartfelt caption. They wrote, “A historic honour! It is a great moment of pride as Honorable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji applauds Chhaava and honours Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s sacrifice and legacy. Released on the occasion of Valentine’s Day, Chhaava has managed to strike a chord with the people. In just a week of its release, the film has earned Rs 310.5 crores in worldwide collections.

Adapted from Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel of the same name, Chhaava sees Vicky Kaushal in the titular role, Rashmika Mandanna as Maharani Yesubai Bhonsle and Akshaye Khanna as Mughal Shahenshah Aurangzeb. Based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s eldest son, Chhatrapatri Sambhaji Maharaj, the Laxman Utekar directorial also co-stars Diana Penty, Divya Dutta, Ashutosh Rana, and Vineet Kumar Singh among others in pivotal roles.
