Tamil superstar Vijay, known for his massive fanbase and recent foray into politics, is facing legal scrutiny after a complaint was lodged against him for allegedly disrespecting Muslims during an Iftar event in Chennai. The event, held to mark the holy month of Ramadan, has drawn criticism from a group called Tamil Nadu Sunnath Jamaat, who claim Vijay’s actions during the gathering were offensive and poorly managed.
The complaint was filed at the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office on 10 March 2025 by the organization, which represents a section of the Muslim community. They accused Vijay of mishandling the Iftar, a traditional meal to break the fast during Ramadan, by including unrelated individuals and failing to ensure proper organization. “Vijay has insulted Muslims by his actions at the Iftar event, which included the participation of people who had no connection to the occasion, leading to chaos and disrespect,” the group stated in their formal complaint.
According to the complaint, the event’s disarray and Vijay’s alleged negligence caused distress among attendees, particularly members of the Muslim community who felt their religious sentiments were undermined. “The poor organization and inclusion of outsiders showed a lack of respect for the sanctity of the Iftar,” they added, demanding legal action to prevent similar incidents in the future. The group clarified their intent, saying, “We are not seeking publicity but want to ensure respect and dignity are maintained in such gatherings.”
Vijay, whose real name is Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, is currently shooting for his upcoming film Jana Nayagan, an action-packed political drama directed by H Vinoth. The actor, who recently launched his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, has not yet responded to the allegations. The complaint has sparked discussions online, with some defending Vijay while others demand a thorough investigation.
The Iftar event, meant to foster community harmony, has now become a point of contention, with authorities yet to confirm whether they will probe the matter. Tamil Nadu Sunnath Jamaat emphasized their commitment to upholding religious respect, stating, “We urge the police to take strict action to avoid such incidents recurring.” As the situation unfolds, Vijay’s team remains silent, leaving fans and the public awaiting clarity on the actor’s next steps.
